Dr Michael Hayter
MBBS, GradDipHlthSci (Nutrition Medicine), FRACGP
Head Practitioner Medical Doctor and Nutritionist
Graduating from the University of NSW in 1989, Michael brings with him a wealth of experience and knowledge gained from thirty years plus of medical practice. Dr Hayter is renowned for his ability to consider each case in an evidence-based, analytical, and compassionate manner. Every case is approached with a fresh outlook, carefully reviewing medical history, past pathology and diagnoses, and performing further investigation to reveal the true underlying mechanisms behind one’s ill health. He is passionate about helping people live their best life. He regularly pursues ongoing professional training which has included study in nutrition, sleep medicine, lifestyle medicine and cardiovascular health. Supporting the comprehensive nutritional care offered by Ballina Health Centre, Mrs Sonya Cacciotti began working with Dr Hayter in 1998 whilst in her second year of study, and together they collaborate to offer a unique combination of lifestyle and medical treatment plans based on current evidence and their clinical experience.
Sonya’s passion for helping people find their optimal wellness was ignited during her studies, each qualification spurring her on to learn and apply more. She holds a Health Science Degree majoring in Complementary Medicine and a Post Graduate Diploma of Health Science, Nutrition Medicine. She recently completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Sports Nutrition through the International Olympic Committee and is an ISAK trained Level 1 Anthropometrist.
Her studies are complemented by extensive industry experience, including over 20 years of clinical and academic work both in Australia and the USA.
Sonya is registered with the Australian Traditional Medicine Society.
Jodi Gibbs

Jodi Gibbs is passionate about helping people overcome the blocks holding them back from having a truly fulfilling life. She has experience supporting people through grief, anxiety, trauma and depression and lack of purpose on their journey in life.

Dr Sam Gartland
Sam is a UK trained doctor who has worked in Ballina since 2019.
His practice of Medicine has been profoundly influenced by his recovery from MS following the Overcoming MS program. The Overcoming MS program is an evidence-based Lifestyle Medicine program that actively addresses the underlying causes of MS.
He is a Member of the Royal College of Physicians (UK), Fellow of The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, Fellow of the Australian Society of Lifestyle Medicine and holds a Masters in Sports Medicine. He has worked with Premier League and “A” league football clubs and has publications in the Sports Medicine literature. He is proud to work with Doctors for Nutrition and has been a retreat facilitator for Overcoming MS and is a co-author of the Overcoming MS Handbook. He is committed to empowering others with the skills and knowledge to optimise their health.
Interests: Multiple Sclerosis, Inflammatory arthritis including rheumatoid arthritis, Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Heart Disease, Hypertension, Type 2 diabetes, depression and anxiety. Most modern chronic conditions can be stablised and in some cases reversed by actively addressing the underlying causes of disease.

Leon Erdrich
Leon graduated with a masters of osteopathy from Unitec, New Zealand, and moved to the Northern Rivers in 2019.
Over his career as an osteopath Leon has developed a special interest in treating head, neck, and jaw disorders and is passionate about improving outcomes for people suffering with chronic headache and migraine. In addition to practicing as an osteopath, Leon works as a lecturer and clinical educator within the osteopathy programme at Southern Cross University. His treatment approach combines modern evidence-based guidelines with classic osteopathic principles and will be tailored to your condition and background.
